Technological progress always brings new benefits, but also new problems to be able to manage. That’s why the advent of LED lighting has opened a new range of solutions in lighting, but there have been and there are several issues to face.
More and more light
LEDs, the protagonists of this revolution, are bettering their performance. Here is a summary table of this progress in luminosity:
- In 2010: 90/100 (Lumen per Watt)
- Today: 150/160
- At the end of 2016: 170
- expectation 2020: 250
This rise has led the Companies of this sector to select the products that already were in the portfolio: on one side the lamps suitable for LED conversion and on the other those that couldn’t be changed. In Panzeri House the first lamp converted to LED has been Gilbert, other were not suitable for the conversion and followed another way, while the new one were specifically designed to this kind of lighting.
How to approach the problem
For the innovative products, the LEDs higher luminous efficiency and the different sizes also create manufacturing problems.
“To keep up with innovations it means to be engaged in a constant research and attention to these issues”, Norberto Panzeri says, “Companies with dimensions like ours can update the LEDs used in production, making them more luminous but with less energy consumption, more frequently than the big companies because the decision- making process is slimmer and faster”
After Panzeri shifts the focus both on light and on design: “We add design to LEDs updating. For our new products we do a great work on thermal transmittance, that is the capacity of the materials we use to leak more or less light. Also in this case the small company can choose faster and consequently determine the design direction.”
The challenge: selection and balance
If for architectural products performance is the priority, choices are not always based on this. Therefore the ability to choose has a great importance and Panzeri gives much attention to the selection of components.
The right combination between performant LEDs and thermal transmittance is the result that gives the measure of the product success: “This is the result of Panzeri effort, that tries to understand the market demand and get the right balance”
Norberto Panzeri says, and adds: “We reject the standards and we put ourselves at stake, investing a lot in projects. If a client asks us something we cannot do, we do not let him go, but we try to study and understand how to satisfy him. It is the passion for our work that brings us to find new solutions. That’s our characteristic, a know how that is more cultural than territorial. It depends on this ‘culture of doing’ that marks the persons who work in Brianza companies like ours, and on a passion that becomes asset.”
